Bairds Avenue Playground
Project Brief
The redevelopment project aimed to transform the existing play area with a budget of £100,000. The key requirements were:
Diverse Play Opportunities: The new play area needed to offer a variety of play activities, including climbing, swinging, bouncing, rotating, creative, imaginative, cooperative, and solitary play.
Inclusive Design: The design had to accommodate children with a wide range of needs and abilities, ensuring compliance with the Equalities Act.
Community Input: The project needed to incorporate specific play equipment identified through community consultation.
Additional Features: The inclusion of seating areas, picnic tables, benches, and engaging graphics on the safety surfacing was essential.
The equipment was selected to cater to children of all ages and abilities, promoting physical activity, sensory development, and social interaction. Key features include the UniMix unit and UniMini crawling tunnel for diverse age groups, a climbing net and zip line for physical challenges, and sensory play equipment to enhance sensory experiences. Inclusivity is ensured with wheelchair-accessible options like a trampoline, seesaw, and roundabout. Additionally, an outdoor seating shelter encourages social engagement, while colorful surfacing graphics create an engaging and visually appealing play environment.
Community Involvement
Community engagement was a critical component of the project. The local community provided valuable input on the types of equipment and features they wanted to see in the play area through consultations and feedback sessions. This ensured that the final design met the specific needs and desires of the children and families using the space.
