Inclusive Play at River Road Park, Brentwood, Essex
Inclusive Play at River Road Play Park
The renovation of the River Road Play Park is part of Brentwood Borough Council’s plan to improve their outdoor play areas. Inclusion is at the top of their list, as well as ensuring that the renovated play area is stimulating and challenging for all children.
Easy access for everyone
The play area had not been updated for several years so it required some much-needed upgrade. We removed all the existing equipment, made it fully accessible for every user and created a path network that will allow everyone to easily move around the play space. The play area provides a broad range of imaginative and inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities.
Double the fun with a double width slide
We installed a custom made UniPlay multi-play unit with a double width slide so that children can slide down with a friend, parent or carer and share the experience together. There are various access points, from the easy access steps to the challenging climbing net, children will be able to choose how they access the unit depending on their skills.
There is also a smaller UniMini multi-play unit for the younger users to practice their climbing and sliding, among other valuable skills.
Dynamic play for everyone
A selection of spinning equipment was installed throughout the play space, each requiring a different level of challenge. From the wheelchair accessible Spinmee roundabout to the Roka Roka bowl-style spinner, children can choose the equipment they feel most comfortable in.
We have also installed a variety of swing seats to accommodate for children of all ages and abilities, including a rope swing, a group swing and the inclusive Mirage swing seat.
A sensory experience
Throughout the play area, children will find equipment that will enhance their sensory play experience, from the musical play panels to the visually stimulating butterfly where children can look through and transform their surroundings.
