Millfields, Clapton, Hackney

Play Space Regeneration

The site of this bright and colourful playground was previously a play area, but all the equipment had been removed some time ago due to age. Following a consultation event at the site with key stakeholders, including the local community, HAGS design was chosen for the project.

Natural Play for All

Creating an inclusive playground was key to the design, ensuring a Mirage Seat, Spinmee roundabout and a double width slide were included to ensure the playground was accessible to the entire community. Bark safety surfacing, timber play equipment and a variety of plants and plant walls were included to give the playground a really natural feel, while at the same time providing a durable and robust playground.

Increasing Access

Part of the project was to increase access to the play area by removing a wall between the area and the adjacent park. The playground is now accessible from both the housing estate and park.

Incredibly Popular

Since installation, the playground has been buzzing with life, and is so popular the two picnic tables are going to be moved into the park to provide more space in the playground and a buggy park next to the play area is planned.
