North Lanarkshire Council
Project Overview
The Attercliffe Avenue play area has become a vibrant community hub, celebrated for its inclusive design and historical theme. It serves as a testament to the positive impact of thoughtful, community-focused play space design.
Design and Features
Inspired by Wishaw’s Roman heritage, HAGS designed a castle/fort-themed play area featuring:
•UniPlay and Uni Mini Climbing Frames: For climbing, sliding, crawling, and imaginative play.
•Variety of Swings: Including flat, basket, cradle, and a tandem swing.
•Dynamic Play Elements: A 20m zip line and a Vippy seesaw.
•Inclusive Equipment: A wheelchair-accessible roundabout and trampoline.
•Sensory Path: With textured play panels.
The play area is divided into zones, with an inclusive zone on wet pour surfacing and accessible picnic tables.
Community Involvement
The design process included community consultation, ensuring the final play area met local needs. A “Design a Sign” competition by the North Lanarkshire Council resulted in a community-created sign at the park's entrance.
